Scotiabank, a significant player in the Americas banking sector, is looking for a Data Engineer. This role is part of the Canadian Banking Technology team, which supports technology needs across Canadian banking services. The team focuses on integrating data solutions to fulfill compliance, analytics, and reporting requirements, providing innovative solutions at the intersection of traditional banking and emergent technologies.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Contribute to the success of Data Engineering and Data Services in Canada.
• Enable achieving team goals in line with business strategies and objectives.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
• Lead customer-focused culture to enhance client relationships and leverage bank knowledge.
• Ensure efficient operations in accordance with organizational values and compliance standards.
• Champion a high-performance, inclusive work environment.
• Participate in data engineering and transformation architecture, design, and delivery.
• Translate architecture or design into logical and physical data models.
• Support data and project design for critical projects.
• Perform hands-on development for data integration, analytics, and cloud environments.
• Support junior team members with solution delivery.
• Work on data ingestion, transformation, and extraction on Enterprise Big Data platform.
• Collaborate with Data Architecture and Quality Assurance teams.

This role requires you to have:

• 6+ years in software development using agile methods.
• Strong understanding of database and data management technologies.
• 3+ years in Big Data environments including Apache Hadoop.
• Hands-on experience with Talend or similar ETL tools.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Spark, and Scala.
• 3+ years with Unix/Linux CLI and shell scripting.
• 3+ years experience with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with BitBucket, GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, DevOps practices.
