The University of Calgary, a leading research institution, is looking to hire a Data Scientist, Bioinformatics within the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute. The position supports the One Child Every Child initiative, aimed at enhancing children's health through advanced data solutions. You'll play a crucial role in advancing machine learning applications within this visionary program.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Develop automated -omics workflows with the Program Manager and Research Computing Services.
  • Maintain quality control tools and generate synthetic data for data flow management.
  • Consult stakeholders to develop statistical and machine learning models for data challenges.
  • Stay updated with best practices and recommend technology and process enhancements.
  • Evaluate and address complex problems using analytical reasoning.
  • Document and train in bioinformatics and -omics processing.
  • Provide technical expertise for grant applications and publications.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for less experienced colleagues.

This role requires you to have:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field; PhD preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience with -omics data in medical or research settings.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics methods and tools.
  • Experience with Python programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Bayesian analysis and various machine learning techniques.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and analytical skills.
