Data Engineer – Meteorological Metadata Mapping

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) offers an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer to drive improvements in meteorological metadata mapping. Part of the Data Archives and Dissemination Services team, the role involves collaboration with international developers and scientists to advance the Copernicus Programme. The team is crucial in managing ECMWF's extensive operational and research data archives, ensuring that the organization’s outputs meet global standards.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain mapping between GRIB and CF-NetCDF data formats using ontologies.
• Work through a large inventory of meteorological parameters, focusing on current operations and use in CDS and ADS.
• Capture mapping requirements for different parameters and forecast systems.
• Support the development of new NetCDF attributes for unmapped data.
• Contribute to proposals for adding new attributes to CF-NetCDF and WMO conventions.
• Collaborate with developers on designing and testing new toolsets.
