BBC News is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join their Product Group, responsible for creating and maintaining digital products like iPlayer and BBC News Online. This team aims to drive engagement across a diverse portfolio, utilizing extensive and varied datasets to personalize audience experiences. In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Develop and lead the architecture of scalable data pipelines for data ingestion and transformation.
• Enhance data quality, governance, and security ensuring compliance with BBC and best practices.
• Prioritize stakeholder requirements to deliver timely solutions.
• Build automation workflows including monitoring and alerting systems.
• Mentor team members and collaborate with various departments to maximize data value.
• Set and maintain standards for coding, testing, and engineering practices.
• Build and test business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
• Evaluate and provide feedback on emerging technologies and upgrades.

This role requires you to have:

• 5+ years experience in data or analytics engineering roles.
• Proven expertise in building ETL pipelines.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Knowledge of AWS and data warehousing technologies.
• Experience using Airflow for data development.
