Graduate Data Scientist / Modeller

Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is on the lookout for a dynamic graduate to fill the role of Data Scientist/Modeller. This position is part of Dstl’s Chemical, Biological, and Radiological teams, offering a unique two-year rotational scheme with exposure to various projects. The team strives to handle complex problems in defence and security, seeking innovative solutions.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Collaborate with team members to address project challenges using logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Provide scientific input through reports and presentations for customer deliverables.
• Support the team’s objectives by contributing to meetings and ongoing activities.
• Assist senior leaders with model development and maintenance.
• Communicate intricate modelling concepts to diverse audiences.

This role requires you to have:

• Dispersion modelling knowledge
• Experimental design proficiency
• Data analysis expertise
• Statistics and reporting skills
• Understanding of modelling theory and scripting

You would benefit from having:

• Experience with Matlab, R, Python, or similar languages
• Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics software
• Experience in geospatial analysis using ArcGIS
• Experience with meteorological data handling
