Within the Onyx Research Data Platform, the Staff Data Engineer and Team Lead will guide a team to leverage data and AI/ML capabilities, advancing GSK's R&D efforts. This role supports delivering industrialized data solutions and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Lead a team of data engineers in creating and enhancing data and knowledge products for GSK R&D.
- Architect data delivery and operational strategies, transforming complex data requests into actionable plans.
- Collaborate with engineering leads to design data flows aligned with microservice architecture.
- Partner with product management to develop effective engagement models.
- Design innovative strategies to improve the data user environment.
- Promote best practices and engineering discipline, including CI/CD and QMS frameworks.
- Act as a leading technical expert and knowledge holder in the field.

This role requires you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar.
- Strong industry experience in data engineering.
- Experience in software engineering and leading matrix data engineering teams.
- Proven track record of handling high-volume, high-compute challenges.
- Familiarity with orchestrating tools and cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and Kubernetes.
- Experience in automated testing, CI/CD, and agile environments.
- Expertise in data modeling, SQL, and use of big data tools (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Storm).
You would benefit from having:
- Master's or PhD in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- Direct line management experience in leading a Data Engineering team.
