Rotherham and Barnsley LOC are seeking a Data Scientist for their Digital, Data and Technology Team based in Carbrook, Sheffield. This temporary 12-month role is part of a multidisciplinary effort to utilize data science for public safety improvements. The team engages in analyzing and visualizing data to make strategic recommendations and address intricate challenges.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Analyze and visualize data to uncover patterns and insights supporting policing activities.
• Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms for crime prediction and prevention.
• Cleanse, prepare, and manipulate data for analytical purposes.
• Ensure ethical data usage in compliance with privacy and security regulations.
• Collaborate with police officers and analysts to develop data science solutions.
• Effectively present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior police staff and external partners.

This role requires you to have:

• STEM-based degree or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in Python and/or R
• Excellent numerical, technical, and analytical skills
