Auckland Council's Data department within the Directorate Group Shared Services is looking for a seasoned Senior Data Engineer. This role is vital for designing, developing, and optimizing data pipelines using tools like Snowflake. The Senior Data Engineer will guide junior engineers and collaborate with various teams to enhance data workflows.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Transform the data environment to maximize information utility
• Mentor and guide a team of four Data Engineers
• Lead projects such as constructing data pipelines for new data lakes
• Document ETL/ELT processes and enhance data engineering standards
• Collaborate closely with analytics, data engineering, and governance teams
• Drive automation and optimize data assets

This role requires you to have:

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Extensive experience and expertise in modern data technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, and Fivetran
• Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing
• Proficiency in data pipeline orchestration tools and process optimization
