The Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a non-profit foundation known for its pivotal role in global pharmacovigilance. The organization manages VigiBase, the WHO's comprehensive database of adverse drug reactions. The data science team within the Research department is dedicated to pioneering data-driven approaches to uncover new safety issues related to medications. This role is essential in transforming research findings into impactful solutions for both internal and external stakeholders.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in agile teams including data scientists and medical experts.
  • Develop and assess innovative methods for pharmacovigilance using statistical modelling and machine learning.
  • Communicate research findings to diverse stakeholders and contribute to scientific publications and conferences.
  • Stay updated on machine learning and NLP advancements and apply them to pharmacovigilance.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the side effects database to aid in research and decision-making.

This role requires you to have:

  • Master's or PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum three years of professional data science experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Experience with data querying languages and databases.
  • Ability to work with diverse, multicultural stakeholders.
