Columbia University is seeking a dedicated Human Genetics Data Analyst/Bioinformatics specialist within the Nephrology department. This role focuses on human genetic studies, including kidney disease and transplant outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with researchers, contributing to significant clinical medicine advancements.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Conduct bioinformatic processing of genetic and transcriptomic data.
  • Perform genetic analyses for funded research projects.
  • Collaborate on various projects within the lab.
  • Mentor and supervise students, post-docs, and junior analysts.
  • Execute other related duties as required.

This role requires you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, human genetics, computational biology, or related fields, plus three years of related experience.
  • Experience in genetic association studies, including exome or genome sequence and RNA sequence data.
  • Proficiency in R, PERL, or PYTHON programming languages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and possess strong communication skills.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in relevant research fields.
  • Strong recommendations from 2-3 professional references.

You would benefit from having:

  • Familiarity with genome and transcriptome interpretation tools.
  • Knowledge of statistical principles and methods in human genetics.
  • Strong programming skills.
