The National Alliance for Public Safety GIS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public safety through geospatial technology. Established in 2005, the foundation addresses challenges faced by public safety agencies at multiple governmental levels. The Data Scientist will contribute to the foundation's mission by providing data expertise on diverse projects, collaborating closely with GIS Technicians and Program Specialists.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Apply quantitative methods and statistical modeling for data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate to enhance and scale predictive models.
- Communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide expertise on data science principles, including data extraction and machine learning.
- Lead problem-solving sessions and develop actionable machine learning use cases.
- Extract and transmit information effectively to varied audiences.

This role requires you to have:
- Experience with graph analytics and visualization tools.
- Production-level experience in predictive modeling and machine learning.
- Proficiency in Python, R, and relevant statistical software.
- Experience with cloud data science tools such as Databricks and AWS SageMaker.
- Strong understanding of relational databases.
You would benefit from having:
- Understanding of geographic information systems (GIS).
- Familiarity with public safety use cases and Esri solutions.
- Experience in data modeling and synthetic data creation.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens and are required to travel 3-5 times a year for meetings and conferences.
