The NYC Department of Education is looking for a Data Analyst to join the Board of Education Retirement System (BERS). This role exists to support data-related tasks and initiatives under the guidance of the Director of Data Analytics. As a part of BERS, the Data Analyst will work closely with various staff members across BERS and other City Retirement Systems.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Respond to ad-hoc requests from different units within BERS and other city agencies.
- Perform data extracts, transformations, and loads using SQL and PL/pgSQL.
- Merge data sets from multiple sources and formats.
- Create spreadsheets, PDFs, and graphs/charts using Python.
- Automate recurring tasks using MFT software and Bash scripts.
- Verify the integrity of data received from external sources and report on issues.
- Assist other units with data cleanup projects.

This role requires you to have:
- Bachelor's degree with 24 credits in computer science or a related field with one year of full-time computer software experience, or a high school diploma with five years of relevant experience.
- Experience in computer systems development, applications programming, database administration, and systems programming.
You would benefit from having:
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Basic understanding of Unix CLI tools like grep, sed, and awk.
- Experience with Python libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, OpenPyXL, and ReportLab.
