The Research and Analytics Department within the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a full-time Data Scientist. This role supports the Social Justice Division, particularly the Voting Rights Section, in utilizing advanced analytics to enforce the New York Voting Rights Act. The OAG employs over 1,800 people statewide, striving to serve and protect New Yorkers through legal and regulatory avenues.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

• Develop and test legal hypotheses using data.
• Acquire and ensure quality of data for investigations.
• Communicate findings through reports and visualizations.
• Update analyses with new data and feedback.
• Work with legal teams to inform decision-making.
• Develop predictive models and new databases.
• Write and defend expert reports in legal settings.
• Maintain and improve computational infrastructure.

This role requires you to have:

• Advanced degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Two years of research experience.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and statistical languages.
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau.
• Skill in relational databases and SQL.
• Excellent communication skills.
