The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Washington D.C. serves as the chief legal advisor and enforcer of laws for the District. The Immediate Office directs the OAG, establishing policy priorities and ensuring high-quality legal services. The Senior Data Scientist role exists to develop and grow data analytics to support the OAG’s mission, with a focus on juvenile and criminal justice.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Develop algorithms and statistical methods for identifying patterns in databases.
  • Design and test data models, algorithms, and predictive models.
  • Utilize machine learning to enhance data quality and operational processes.
  • Manage and analyze data for program evaluations and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with partners to assess justice initiatives and data accessibility.
  • Compile analyses to offer data-driven insights for process improvements.
  • Leverage analytical tools for new insights and responsive report requests.
  • Provide consultations on statistical and technical practices.
  • Train staff on data collection, entry, and storage best practices.

This role requires you to have:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, economics, data analytics, data science, public policy or related fields.
  • Competence in programming and data visualization tools like Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI.
  • Experience in program effectiveness evaluation and continuous learning with data.
  • Project management proficiency from design to implementation.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying technical information.

  • Experience with business intelligence and technology programs.
  • Curiosity in public policy, especially criminal justice.
  • Experience in legal environments or D.C. public policy.
  • Innovation in data collection and management practices.
