The Office of Research and Development at the EPA is dedicated to conducting high-caliber research to bolster the scientific underpinnings essential for critical environmental decision-making. Within this framework, the Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure plays a pivotal role by embarking on research to assess human health risks and environmental threats. This position contributes to the Scientific Computing & Data Curation Division, which focuses on managing extensive data streams for evaluating chemical risks.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Support research for the CSS research program by structuring data for tiered toxicity testing.
- Develop datasets to parametrize hazard models, and assist with data evaluations.
- Format, manage, and upload data into standard templates and databases.
- Apply data science and machine learning techniques.
- Write Python scripts for data tasks in the ToxVal database.
- Utilize BitBucket for code management.
- Conduct user acceptance testing on software.
- Implement data management, ensuring provenance and backups.
- Contribute to enhancements in data process efficiency and scalability.
- Develop and review technical and quality control logs.
This role requires you to have:
- Domain knowledge of data management techniques
- Proficiency in Python programming
- Strong reading comprehension for varied data sources
You would benefit from having:
- Proficiency in R programming
- Experience with databases like MySQL
- Experience with toxicology data
- Knowledge of organic chemistry nomenclature
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a Master's degree in a relevant field acquired within the last 24 months, and be a US citizen or Legal Permanent Resident. EPA ORD employees and their immediate family are not eligible for this program.
