The Lead Data Engineer role exists to drive innovation within the Life/Health Data team, utilizing emerging AWS technologies to develop pivotal data solutions. In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the predictive modeling team, actuaries, and business experts to create data products.
  • Design and maintain data products through development, testing, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Prepare data for analytics solutions, ensuring alignment with State Farm's data management policies.
  • Develop and implement data pipeline solutions to enhance analytics projects.
  • Identify and apply critical technologies and cloud-based platforms for data engineering solutions.

This role requires you to have:

  • Proficiency in AWS Cloud technologies (Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Postgres, Athena, S3, EC2, PySpark).
  • Experience with Terraform for AWS infrastructure.
  • Version control expertise, particularly with GitHub or GitLab.
  • GitOps experience.
  • Programming skills in Python and SAS.
  • Knowledge of open-source databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Experience in analytics business requirement gathering and data asset management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

You would benefit from having:

  • Experience with Life/Health Insurance data.
  • Familiarity with the Model Building Lifecycle.
  • Competence in deployment automation technologies, notably Terraform.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Positions are available in several locations, including Bloomington, IL and Richardson, TX.
