The University of Miami, through the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS), has an opportunity for a Data Scientist 3. This role is crucial for a national project with the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center, focusing on transforming active acoustic data analysis. The position offers flexibility to work from Galveston, TX, Pascagoula, MS, Miami, FL, or remotely.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Develop and validate methods for echo classification using AI/ML
- Assist in creating and managing data transfer and cloud storage processes
- Review and propose new methodologies for managing diverse datasets
- Design and test AI/ML models for acoustic data classification
- Collaborate with partners to operationalize echo classification tools
This role requires you to have:
- Proficiency in machine learning or AI methods
- Software language expertise in Python or R
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge of Bayesian methods
- Understanding of relational databases
- Strong communication skills
You would benefit from having:
- Experience with echosounder data software such as Echoview
- Familiarity with fisheries acoustics
- Experience with cloud processing pipelines
