The University of Washington, renowned for significant research funding, is seeking a Data Engineer/DBA to support the Office of Research Information Services. This role focuses on optimizing database performance for research and administrative activities, impacting lives on campus and beyond. As part of a dynamic team, the candidate will contribute to the university's mission of reducing administrative burdens on researchers through streamlined information services.

In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain database environments to support applications.
  • Develop and assist with SQL queries for applications and reports.
  • Implement automation to enhance software performance.
  • Maintain databases for reliable ORIS product performance.
  • Participate in ORIS’s review culture to ensure high-quality code.
  • Develop backup and retention plans for database management.
  • Implement performance monitoring strategies for databases.
  • Coordinate system updates and data migrations.
  • Collaborate with development teams for database component integration.
  • Participate in risk assessment and security planning.

This role requires you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math/Statistics, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • 6 years of data engineering and database administration experience.
  • Proficiency with SQL and data infrastructure optimization.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and performance monitoring tools.

You would benefit from having:

  • Experience with AWS Services such as Glue and Redshift.
  • Familiarity with REST API development platforms like MuleSoft.
  • Knowledge of open-source database technologies.
  • Experience in a Scrum-Agile environment.
