The Data Engineer role offers an opportunity to join the Shared Services and Infrastructure Insights team within the Enterprise Chief Information Office, responsible for advancing USAA’s data engineering efforts across various operational domains to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:
- Manage data engineering lifecycle, including analysis, design, pipeline engineering, testing, and production support.
- Develop complex technical data engineering solutions.
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to design, security, and performance.
- Collaborate on design reviews and provide feedback.
- Translate business features into technical solutions.
- Create prototypes for complex initiatives.
- Onboard and mentor junior engineers.
- Manage data sources, databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
- Enforce data development standards and conduct code reviews.
- Monitor and control risks in compliance with company policies.

This role requires you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience or certification.
- 4 years of experience in data engineering, data analysis, or software development.
- Proficient in SQL and Relational Databases.
- Understanding of Agile methodology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with Cloud technologies.
You would benefit from having:
- Experience with building ELT models in DBT.
- ETL skills with DataStage and deployment using Urban Code Deploy.
- Proficient in Snowflake.
- Troubleshooting data issues in UNIX systems.
- Experience with batch scheduling using Control-M.
- Knowledge of data warehousing principles.
